Cataracts

Cataracts are a clouding of the eye's natural lens that prevent light from entering the eye, and thus prevent images being sent to the brain.

Treatment for cataracts

The most effective and common treatment for cataracts is cataract surgery, which involves surgically removing the cloudy natural lens and inserting a clear artificial IOL (intraocular lens).

Cataract surgery is one of the most common surgeries performed in the UK, and millions of these procedures are performed worldwide every year.

Mr Moriarty is a specialist in microincision cataract surgery. In this type of surgery, the new lens is folded and inserted through a smaller hole, which reduces recovery times and the risk of infection.

TECNIS® Multifocal Lens

The TECNIS Multifocal Lens.

The TECNIS® Multifocal Lens is a modern artificial intraocular lens used in cataract surgery. Multifocal implants such as this can enable both near and distance vision in the same eye.
